New Mobile App Contains, Compares Energy Star Scores for 1 Billion Square Feet of Real Estate

A free app for iPhone and Android devices is an important new resource for the green building industry, allowing users to easily and quickly compare Energy Star data for 1 billion square feet of real estate across North America.

New York City-based sustainable building consultants CodeGreen Solutions announced today the launch of a new free app for iPhone and Android devices. The CodeGreen Energy App allows users to view and analyze Energy Star data for over one billion square feet of real estate across the country. In an industry first, it also uses a proprietary algorithm that allows owners and tenants to apply building characteristics – like age, size, location, and use – in order to receive a single performance score for a property (so Energy Star scores are normalized, giving context to the score as applied against similar properties).

The firm developed the software to address the increasing need for access to building performance data as cities across the country – from San Francisco to Seattle and, of course, New York City – have enacted local laws requiring energy performance disclosure and benchmarking. The app also allows users to see whether or not a particular building is compliant with local energy efficiency legislation; understand what that legislation actually entails, and when it may take effect for a given property; and share building performance details on Facebook and Twitter.

We’ve downloaded a copy and our first impression is that the interface is simple, clean, and much easier to navigate than the EPA’s website (particularly if you search through it for Energy Star data as frequently as we do). Congrats to CodeGreen on building what appears to be a terrific, accessible resource for the industry.

You can download the app for iPhone here, and Android devices here.
