Last week, HGTV revealed that the location of its Green Home Giveaway, which one lucky viewer will win in 2008, is Tradition Hilton Head, South Carolina, a 5,300-acre planned community that sits between Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head Island. Designed as a traditional South Carolina Low Country cottage, the 2,000-square-foot, 3-bedroom and 2.5-bath Green Home is registered with USGBC and will pursue an unspecified level of LEED certification (though not under the LEED for Homes Pilot Program).
The project will of course incorporate a number of green design features including a graywater system, tankless water heaters, low-E glazing, sprayed-in foam insulation, fiber cement siding, SIPs, and ICFs. House planner Jack Thomasson, who has supervised the construction of each of HGTV’s Dream Homes, describes each of these technologies here in a series of videos that are definitely worth checking out. Sponsors whose products will appear in the home include Shaw Industries, Sears, GM, SCJ, Kohler, Caesarstone and the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation. You can enter to win the fully-furnished home from March 21 through May 9, 2008; the prize package is worth over $850,000.
HGTV will air its Green Home 2008 special on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at 9PM ET and provide a tour of the home, with a 360 degree virtual tour available online beginning on March 3. The Green Home is the second home that HGTV will give away during 2008; the other is its 12th Dream Home which, this year, is located in Islamorada on the Florida Keys. HGTV has kept many details about the project under wraps, but I’ll be following its blog and other updates as construction proceeds down south.

I do not see a way to enter the “green home” contest. Is the contest not yet open for entries? Perhaps I am missing something. I have never entered the contest before. I am a avid HGTV fan.

I have been faithfully entering this contest as not only would winning this home be a blessing to me, but it would be a dream come true! I have planned, investigated, and researched alternative energy forms for over the past 10 years, which of course at the time were high cost, now, would most definately be worth it. Thank you HGTV for allowing so many the opportunity to enter and recieve such a home.
I have been entering your contest for the Hilton Head, S.C.home, my first try as I certainly would like to win. South Carolina is my home and I would love to live there again but at our age we can not afford to purchase such a lovely home.
Thanks to HGTV for all the wonderful things that you do and My God Bless each of you.
Anyone know where exactly (address) this home is located in HH, SC?
Who was the architect and or is it possible to look at the floor plan with the actual room sizes.
I THINK HGTV IS GREAT!!(WATCH IT ALL THE TIME)
I WOULD BE EXCITED TO WIN A HOME IN HILTON HEAD, S.C.
MY SON,DAUGHTER-LAW AND GRANDDAUGHTER LIVES IN BLUFFTON, S.C., NOT FAR FROM HILTON HEAD. I NOW RESIDE IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
THANKS FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO WIN THIS BEAUTIFUL HOME!
The green home is NOT in Hilton Head it’s about 15 minutes west of Hilton Head it’s almost right by I-95 and actually in Hardeeville, SC. If you send for info from Traditions Hilton Head they will send you a map. Also anyone hoping of a win remember…..taxes!! You can expect it to be around $400,000. Hope anyone that wins has that type of money otherwise it will be like so many other winners of the dream homes….you’ll have to sell. Good Luck everyone.
Why not build a green home in an average tax bracket , that an average citizen could afford. Instead of having to sell upon winning. I would love to own a green home . Think about us little people, small tax payers… For your next project. Luck to all.

I agree with Mary concerning the high taxes, in this case approximately 400,000. I’m sure most of the homes HGTV has generously given away have had to be sold to cover this expense.
I also would like to know something about the roof of the Green Home. I can’t seem to find it in the video. It’s a great house in a super location, I’ll be watching to see who wins it! Thanks and Good Luck to all who entered.
