Dagher Engineering's headquarters at 29 Broadway in lower Manhattan earned a LEED for Commercial Interiors ("LEED-CI") Gold rating from USGBC earlier this year. Dagher designed the space in collaboration with Gran Associates, implementing a variety of now standard LEED green features, including recycled and renewable materials, low-VOC paints, automatic light fixtures, and extensive daylighting. This is our third in a series of posts about the four LEED-CI-certified office spaces here in New York City; we've presented Cook + Fox' and Gensler's offices previously, with only Herman Miller's still outstanding.
As part of its sustainable efforts, Dagher now offers its employees $1,000 towards the purchase of hybrid cars. It's also buying RECs in order to completely offset the CO2 produced by the 29 Broadway office. Elias Dagher, founder and President of the firm, told Real Estate Weekly earlier this year that he wants to "convince people that they can combine economic and environmental sustainability. We begin with small steps, and as people buy into the concept, we take larger leaps." Mr. Dagher's comments are, of course, particularly salient in the context of demonstrating his firm's sustainable commitment to clients that are considering green design.
