gbNYC is a frequent advocate that the most sustainable of construction practices is to respect existing buildings, particularly in as dense a place as New York City where our stock is diversified across every sector of the real estate market. Now, New Yorkers interested in preservation have a new outlet to help shape the future of the city's historic treasures over the next 22 years.

A 15-minute online survey, available here, aims to gather input from the entire preservation community as the first phase of a program designed to analyze successes and form a short-list of ideas, come up with recommendations based on these findings, and issue a report by the end of the year to be circulated among a wider audience.

Preservation Vision: NYC, is a collaborative effort between the Pratt Area Community Council, New York Community Trust, and the New York State Council on the Arts, among others, and overseen by the non-profit Minerva Partners. The year-long program is intended to coincide with Mayor Bloomberg's various PlaNYC 2030 initiatives.

Our current homes and buildings deserve to be preserved. The longer we keep them up and efficient, the more we can benefit, financially and environmentally.
