Mission

gbNYC is published by Stephen Del Percio, a construction and real estate attorney admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Del Percio was one of the first ten attorneys in the country to earn the LEED AP designation and focuses his practice on servicing the legal needs of design, construction, and real estate industry stakeholders in the New York City area.

gbNYC’s mission is to deliver fresh daily content on the state of green real estate in the New York City metropolitan area. More broadly, we aim to comment on green building generally, using local projects as a vehicle through which to discuss LEED, Green Globes, and the legal and business implications of the sustainable construction, legislation, and insurance initiatives that continue to grip the entire country with increased frequency. Our goal is to become the most comprehensive resource for green building news in New York, and the web's leader in objectively surveying the sustainable landscape from a wider business and legal perspective. This site is not sponsored by any organization, the views expressed herein are solely those of our authors, and none of our advertisers ever pay for content. Energy Company Offers Carbon Neutrality

EnergyWatch Inc, an innovative, full-service utility rate consulting firm based in New York City and serving energy users since 2000, announced today that it will be offering green energy services to owners and managers of large real estate holdings. EnergyWatch will assist clients with purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) to offset a building’s carbon footprint. RECs can be purchased for far less than the cost of buying traditional renewable power. A REC is a subsidy paid to renewable power projects to enable them to sell clean energy at competitive market prices. Although the owner of the REC is not directly using renewable energy, they are enabling the injection of renewable energy into the national energy grid thereby supporting environmental change by economics. EnergyWatch provides the guidance companies need to pick a REC supplier that is compatible with each firm’s environmental objectives.

Jay Raphaelson, EnergyWatch’s President, stated “Renewable Energy Credits are an affordable method of green energy purchasing. A lot of companies have jumped on the bandwagon to create a fast food option masquerading as quality REC providers. Many worthwhile REC sources are out there, but I recommend that companies choose with due diligence when selecting a REC provider. In other words, Buyers Beware.”

I think my city of LA could benefit from greenbuilding technology. While we dont have many tall buildings, there are plenty of wide, flat buildings which could benefit from 'green roofs.'

If only greenbuildings could somehow diminish our smog problem...

Has any research been done into plants which absorb smog (without dying)? One seeking to promote coating LA roofs with such a green plant could make a great deal of money in the process AND improve the living conditions.

Will there be a

Will there be a greenbuildingsdc site anytime soon?
