As the year draws to a close, let’s take a quick look back at the five articles from 2012 that were the most popular (by total page views) here at gbNYC.

From our perspective, local awareness of and interest in environmental issues connected to the built environment surged in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy’s devastating impact on the New York City metropolitan area. But there was no shortage of important green building- and real estate-related stories that we covered here at gbNYC during the course of 2012. So, as the year draws to a close, let’s take a quick look back at the following five of our articles from 2012 that were the most popular (by total page views) here at gbNYC:

No. 1: Under Construction: One World Trade Center Progress Photos From May 11, 2012

We snapped a few photos of construction progress at 1 WTC on a sunny May afternoon.

No. 2: J.C. Penney Inks Full-Building Lease at Historic 200 Lafayette Street

The retailer’s 130,000-square-foot expansion into 200 Lafayette Street after a $20 million, LEED-certified upgrade to the 1900s-era, 7-story property that once served as a manufacturing facility was our second-most viewed article here at gbNYC in 2012.

No. 3: A Closer Look at 1 WTC’s Green Design Features

Early last year, we covered the Port Authority’s and the Durst Organization’s release of specific advanced building technologies at 1 WTC that will support the tower’s LEED Gold application to USGBC.

 No. 4: 7 Bryant Park: Hines Gets Approval to Name Green Trophy Tower

This exciting new LEED-hopeful project from Pei Cobb Freed and Hines will rise at the southwest corner of Bryant Park in Midtown.

 No. 5: New York State Passes Real Property Tax Exemption Legislation for Green Buildings

This important piece of enabling legislation (it authorizes local governments to implement the exemption) provides that any new commercial or residential construction or renovations exceeding $10,000 that meet LEED requirements (or those of other equivalent rating systems such as the Green Building Initiative’s Green Globes rating system, or other substantially equivalent green building certification systems) can be eligible for a tax exemption.
