The 2011-12 BOMA/NY Pinnacle Awards were handed out earlier this month and this year’s set of entrants were a bumper crop: the field included the highest total of LEED- and Energy Star-rated buildings in the competition’s history. The Pinnacle – New York’s competition of the TOBY (The Building of the Year) Awards of BOMA International – is the highest award given to owners and property managers in Gotham’s commercial real estate industry. This year’s competition recognized a number of green buildings, many of which we’ve discussed previously here at gbNYC:

  • Historical Building: 122 East 42nd Street (The Chanin Building), owned by 122 East 42nd Street and managed by Cassidy Turley (pictured);
  • Earth Award: One Penn Plaza, owned by Vornado Realty Trust, managed by Vornado Office Management;
  • Corporate Facility: 1515 Broadway, owned and managed by SL Green;
  • Renovated Building: 112 West 34th Street, owned by 112 West 34th Street Company, LLC, supervised by Malkin Holdings, LLC, and managed by Cushman & Wakefield;
  • Operating Office Building – 100,000–249,999 square feet: 461 Fifth Avenue, owned and managed by SL Green;
  • Operating Office Building – 250,000–499,999 sf : 600 Lexington Avenue, owned and managed by SL Green;
  • Operating Office Building – 500,000–1,000,000 sf: 712 Fifth Avenue, owned by 712 Fifth Avenue, L.P. and managed by Paramount Group, Inc.; and
  • Operating Office Building – Over 1,000,000 sf: 1301 Avenue of the Americas, owned by 1301 Properties Owner LP and managed by Paramount Group, Inc.

Each of the nominated buildings had to submit a comprehensive entry binder and participate in a building inspection walk-through conducted by a judging team. Entrants were evaluated on a checklist of building specifics and graded on a scale of zero to four (excellent).

Congrats to all of this year’s winners!
