Green Building Initiative Offering February Existing Buildings Webinar Series

An upcoming series of webinars will explore implementing the Green Globes rating system in the context of existing buildings.

Our friends over at the Green Building Initiative are offering a series of webinars throughout February that will discuss their Green Globes tool in the context of greening existing buildings. The webinars are being held each Tuesday and Thursday in February (beginning next Tuesday, February 3) at 1PM eastern time. You can register through the link below.

While we’re waiting to see the first Green Globes-certified building here in New York City, Morristown, New Jersey boasts the region’s only Green Globes certification; developer Steve Needle earned the designation last April for The Point at Morristown, a six-story, 24,000-square-foot commercial office building in downtown Morristown.

As we’ve noted previously, New Jersey is one of a number of states that includes Green Globes within the purview of state-level green building legislation. In early 2008, it amended a bill that was enacted during the spring of 2007 to allow a two Green Globe rating to satisfy legislation requiring LEED Silver for public construction greater than 15,000 square feet.

gbNYC has been a consistent advocate of flexibility in how state- and local-level green building legislation is implemented. We’re definitely interested in hearing more about Green Globes and existing buildings as the new construction market – particularly here in New York City – continues to soften.
